Road Surface Provider
SRT has acquired a Dynatest Road Surface Profiler 5051 Mark 11(RSP) that provides an advanced, automated, high quality pavement roughness and related measurements solution to engineers worldwide. The RSP is capable of real time continuous high-way speed measurements of longitudinal profile(International Roughness Index (IRI), Ride Number, transverse profile, rut depth, macro texture, geometrics (crossfall, curvature and gradient)).
Measurements can be referenced to linear chainage or Differential Geographic Positioning System (DGPS) allowing easy integration to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Integrated digital photos, in JPEG format, both to the front and rear, taken every 10m, are available.
SRT’s Mark II RSP is installed in a VW Transporter and consists of only two primary components:
- A transducer beam (Rut Bar) carrying 17 lasers,2 accelerometers and an IMS (Inertial Motion Sensor).
- A processing unit.
Measuring Principle:
An accelerometer is used to obtain vertical vehicle body movement, and a laser sensor is used for measuring the displacement between the vehicle body
and the pavement. Road profile measurements are then obtained by summing the body movements with the appropriate body-road displacements. IRI
is calculated in accordance with World Bank Specifications. The measurement of the longitudinal profile meets the class 1 precision and bias specifications
as defined by ASTM E-950.
Transverse profile and rut depth are based on 17 lasers. An Inertial Motion Sensor (IMS) has been added for measuring crossfall, gradient and curvature.
